Being one of the principal towns in the Lower Perak district, Teluk Intan has over 100 primary schools 〔Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Perak: (Senarai Sekolah Rendah Daerah Hilir Perak )〕 and more than 20 secondary schools.〔Pejabat Pendidikan Hilir Perak: (Sekolah Menengah )〕 Schools in established prior to the Independence of Malaya in 1957 include: * Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Horley Methodist (1899) :Established as the Government Tamil School, the school was handed over to the Methodist Church in 1901 and renamed the Anglo-Tamil School. The school was renamed again as the Anglo-Chinese School in 1904. The current name was adopted in 1963.〔SMK Horley Methodist: (History )〕 * Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Convent (1919) :Established as the St. Agnes School, the administration of the school was handed over to the Sisters of the Holy Infant Jesus in 1926 and was renamed as the Convent School.〔(SMK Convent Teluk Intan )〕 * San Min Schools (1929) :Established with the merger of the Wah Keow Primary School, Phooi Yong Primary School and the Anson Girl's School, the school was divided into two separate institutions in 1962 when the Education Act 1961 was passed by the Parliament 〔安顺三民独中 : (校史 )〕 * * Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan San Min :: Grant-in-aid school using the Malay language as the language of instruction * * Sekolah Menengah San Min (SUWA) :: Chinese Independent High School using the Chinese language as the language of instruction * Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan St. Anthony (1932) :Established as a parish school adjoining the Roman Catholic St. Anthony's Church, the administration of the school was taken over by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools or the Lasallian Brothers in 1947 as part of the school's rebuilding in the post Japanese occupation period.〔St. Anthony's Alumni of Teluk Intan: (The Early Years )〕 * Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Abdul Aziz (1952) :One of the first Malay language secondary schools in Malaysia.〔Sekolah Menengah Sultan Abdul Aziz: (Sejarah Sekolah )〕 * SMK Seri Perak (1957) There is one boarding school in Teluk Intan that is Sekolah Menengah Sains Teluk Intan and one technical school, Sekolah Menengah Teknik Teluk Intan. There are 2 public university branch campuses located in Teluk Intan. The campuses are UiTM Teluk Intan Campus () of Faculty of Medicine completed in October 2010 and UKM Teluk Intan Campus of Faculty of Medicine (currently under construction) . Both are located beside Hospital Teluk Intan.
